Project Mission

HNP Ontario's Earth Day Competition 2025 seeks to inspire eco-friendly habits, and contribute to a cleaner, greener planet through our garbage cleanup and carbon reduction streams. The goal is to reduce litter and decrease our carbon footprint while promoting environmental awareness.

Project Description

The HNP 2025 Earth Day Competition is an initiative that strives to support youth in sparking positive environmental action within their school community. Students and environmental clubs or councils are able to register their schools in one of TWO streams this year: Community clean up and Carbon reduction challenge. The student leaders who register their school for the EDC will be leading a school-wide event and representing their school to compete for amazing prizes.

Project Impact

Last year, the 2024 HNP Earth Day competition reached across 7 school boards in Ontario. 10 Student leaders led over 2815 inspired and determined volunteers to drive change in the community. This competition allowed student leaders to be recognized by their schools and formally recognized by HNP. Additionally, all volunteers received volunteer hours.

Overview

Our streams this year :

Community Clean-Up

In this stream, students will organize and lead community clean-up events within their local areas, such as school grounds or nearby parks. By mobilizing their peers and community members, participants aim to reduce litter and raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship and waste management.

Carbon Reduction Challenge

This stream challenges students to reduce their school’s carbon emissions by taking sustainable actions and logging their efforts on the Commit2Act platform. Participants will track their individual and collective carbon savings, aiming to make a measurable impact on their school’s environmental footprint.
